Refrigerant R-22, also known as HCFC-22, has been one of the most widely used refrigerants in residential and commercial air conditioning systems, as well as in select industrial and centrifugal chiller applications. Following the phaseout of CFC refrigerants, R-22 became a standard solution for both air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Although R-22 is no longer approved for use in newly manufactured equipment, it remains legally available for servicing and maintaining existing systems. This makes it a critical refrigerant for legacy HVAC and refrigeration installations still in operation today.
